GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses, including biographical information on several prominent citizens: John Ratliff, Ellis Hughes, William Knowles, poet, Justice William Burnham Woods, Hubert Howe Bancroft, Samuel Ryan Curtis and Isaac Smucker. The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including interesting historical notes, especially as they relate to sightseeing possibilities. A brief 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, short items on Buxton Tavern and Denison College from a 1941 Ohio history, some feature articles from the 1960s, a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included.
