Early days in Ashland County, including the communities of Ashland, Jeromesville, Perrysville, Hayesville and Loudonville, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 52 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio, Baughman's History of Ashland County, Ohio, The Ohio Guide, (written by the WPA) and other hard-to-find sources. The spiral-bound booklet is one-sided on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. A sheet of clear vinyl protects the front cover. Among the many fascinating topics covered in the booklet are: military heros like Lorin Andrews - the first Ohio volunteer for the Union Army, the founding of Ashland, Jeromesville and Hayesville, and Indian activity including two massacres and monuments to the massacre victims. The Baughman excerpts include a number of community histories. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, an article on the remarkable folk hero Johnny Appleseed and maps showing the 88 Ohio counties and 1805 Ohio are also included. The WPA excerpts offer a look at the area in 1940 with historical perspectives, and several news articles from the 1960s are also included.
