Topics covered in the history of this rural county in central Missouri include: Natural History -- Boundary, Topography and Water Courses, Geology; Early Settlers; Saltpetre and other caves; Thomas James and the Meramac Iron furnace; Early Land Entries, with many names; First Election; County Organization; The Courts, and a variety of early cases; Members of the Bar; the Civil War -- Opening Scenes, an editorial in the Rolla Express, the First Mass-Meeting, First Force Organized, a news article called "Armed Men Appear", Federal Control, Recruiting; Commercial Centers -- Meramec Spring, Rolla, St. James, Newburg, Edgar Springs, and Arlington; Societies (many names), Businesses, Newspapers; Schools, Churches; and other bits of history and trivia.
