Neill. The booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. A vinyl sheet has been added to protect the front cover. The booklet contains information on the following communities: New Ulm, Milford, Cottonwood, Home, Golden Gate, Sleepy Eye Lake, Eden, Sigel, Stark, Leavenworth, Burnstown, North Star, Stately, Bashaw, Mulligan, Albin, Lake Hanska and Linden. Among the many subjects discussed are: Physical Features and boundaries and organization; Early public officials; First Permanent Settlers, Germans from Chicago; Early settlers and prominent residents in each town; County and/or community "firsts," such as the first store, first marriage, first sawmill, first postmaster, first death, first birth, first school, etc.; Overcoming Troubles: Pesky Blackbirds, hungry Grasshoppers, Indian massacres, and the Great Cyclone of 1881; Ferry Boats, bridges and Railroads; Early Newspapers; Prohibition of selling liquor to Indians; Search for a Model town surrounded by gardens and fronting on a river; Two societies Merging as the German Land Association; Churches and Schools; Early Hotels and other businesses and industries; Organizations, such as the Masons; and other bits of history and trivia. There are mini biographies of prominent residents in the various towns, as well as many other names throughout the booklet. An extensive list of Civil War soldiers is included.
